The anticipated game “171”, often referred to as the “Brazilian GTA”, has unveiled a new story trailer that delves deeper into the game’s narrative, which is characterized by the conflict between loyalty to family and the perilous allure of a criminal lifestyle.
Developed by Beta Games Group, the title has also received a new release window and additional images that emphasize the game’s expansive map, heavily inspired by Brazil’s real-world geography and culture. The game’s main draw lies in its meticulously detailed setting, replicating the architecture of homes, streets, and iconic landmarks, as well as cars, bus stops, and other elements that evoke everyday life in Brazil.
Story and Trailer of “171”
The plot of “171” centers on Nicolau Souza, an honest worker living in a community who strives to maintain a decent life amidst the chaotic streets reminiscent of São Paulo. However, he is eventually drawn into the criminal underworld due to the influence of his brother, Rogério, a former drug addict with ties to a dangerous faction. Together, they navigate the challenges posed by organized crime and law enforcement.
The newly released story trailer showcases an expanded map compared to previous versions, highlighting the stark social inequality that defines the landscape. Paulistânia emerges as the economic heart and center of chaos, while other areas include the Interior, the Serra do Mar mountain range connecting the plateau to the coast, and the Baixada dos Anjos, a coastal region blending tourism with seaside criminal activities.
What Is the Gameplay Like in “171”?

Taking inspiration from the GTA series, “171” offers an open-world experience where players can choose to live honestly, taking on roles such as a paramedic, delivery person, driver, or police officer, or embrace a life of crime. Choosing the criminal path yields more money but comes with greater risks, including car theft for profit, drug trafficking, or confronting gangs for loot. Engaging in criminal acts may draw the attention of authorities who will attempt to capture the player character, dead or alive.
Earnings from either path can be spent on clothing stores, barbershops, weapons vendors to upgrade one’s arsenal, or car dealerships. The game promises a bodily system that reflects real-life consequences of the character’s habits. Sedentary behavior and poor diet will deteriorate the protagonist’s physical condition, whereas gym training will enhance strength and stamina.
When Will “171” Be Released?

“171” has been in the making for around 15 years. The project underwent a significant restart in 2015 following a switch from the Blender 3D to the Unreal Engine 4, and in 2023, it began transitioning to the Unreal Engine 5. The development was made possible through crowdfunding campaigns that raised over 300,000 Brazilian Reais in the past decade.
Currently, the game is available in its Alpha version through early access for 59.99 BRL (or 35.99 BRL during sales) on Steam and Nuuvem. The official release is expected in the third quarter of 2026, positioning it just months before the launch of GTA 6, which is set for November 19, 2026, following two delays.
