Dear americans,
I was born, raised, live in and plan to continue living in Brazil, a country of latin america. I am a proud Latino, and a proud brazilian. I watched this place change a lot from the early 2000s to today. Not all of it was for the best, but I would say that overall Latin america has become better in the past 20 years. I visited many beaches, cities, restaurants, hotels, touristic places, historic places, etc. Many many hours on the road, airplanes, buses and even trains. Our history, geography and culture are very rich.
All that is to say, this is my place, this is my home. This country is filled with my brothers and sisters, this continent is filled with my cousins.
We appreciate when your people come here and, following the laws, enjoy a nice time with the locals. You have always been welcome to our parties, you’ve always been welcome to our beaches, you’ve always been welcome to our hangouts. Not only brazilians, but all latinos in general, are known for being welcoming and friendly, no matter where we are, to everyone. Mi casa es su casa.
That said, we are done with your interventions.
We do not appreciate your invasions, regime changes, coups, media manipulations and more that have been happening ever since early the 1900s. We do not appreciate being looked down upon, told to speak english in our own countries, having trash thrown on our streets “because it’s fine to do it here”, our laws being broken “because what they gonna do about it?”, having your culture forced on us 24/7 and all sorts of mistreatment we go through because of some of you.
Although we know it’s not all of you, that many protested decades before and today, it still is enough of you to be a problem for us. Enough of you throw trash around and disrespected laws that it became a known issue. Enough of you voted for bad politicians there that we ended up suffering here, before and today. Enough of you looked down on us that it’s openly visible that there is xenophobia to this day.
Our people are tired.
Neither South nor Latin america needs your intervention. We’ve seen what your people did in the middle east. We’ve seen how your war crimes went unpunished throughout history. We do not need you to tell us who should govern, nor how we should think. Latin america is full of independent countries, and we will remain so. We will never be the U.S.’ colony. Leave us be.
