Embraer: Brazil is selling flying cars to Japan

Eve Air Mobility, the subsidiary of Brazilian aerospace giant Embraer developing the country’s first flying car, has announced its first sale to the Asia-Pacific region: two units of its electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft have been sold to Japan’s AirX, a helicopter-based air transport operator. The deal includes an option for AirX to expand its order to up to 50 vehicles, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2029.

The eVTOL aircraft, often referred to as “flying cars,” are expected to initially operate in the Japanese cities of Tokyo and Osaka, focusing on tourist routes. The announcement was made at the Singapore Airshow, one of the world’s leading aerospace industry events, where Embraer and Eve are exhibiting.

Kiwamu Tezuka, founder and CEO of AirX, said the partnership is a step toward bringing “next-generation air mobility” to Japan. “We are excited to work with Eve to pioneer this new mode of transportation in our country,” Tezuka said in a statement.

The deal marks a significant milestone for Eve, which has been working to position Brazil as a key player in the emerging urban air mobility market. The company’s eVTOL has already completed its first successful prototype flight in São Paulo state, paving the way for certification and commercial operations in Brazil.

The news also had a positive impact on Eve’s stock performance in Brazil. After a period of decline, the company’s shares on the B3 stock exchange rose slightly, closing at R$ 19.80 on Wednesday (Feb. 4), up from R$ 19.62 the previous day. Eve’s shares were initially launched in July 2025 at R$ 39.

Over US$ 1 Billion Raised for Brazilian ‘Flying Car’

Eve’s momentum is further supported by strong investor confidence. Last month, the company announced a new financing round of US$ 150 million, bringing its total funding to US$ 1.2 billion. The capital will be used to accelerate the development of the eVTOL and to strengthen Eve’s long-term strategy in the urban air mobility sector.

With the first commercial flights expected by 2029, Eve is positioning itself as a global contender in the race to bring flying cars to market. The company’s success in securing its first Asian customer is a testament to the growing international interest in sustainable, next-generation air transport solutions.
