Valve has officially confirmed that it will release the Steam Machine, Steam Frame VR headset, and the new Steam Controller in 2026, despite earlier uncertainty. The company initially caused concern after a blog post in its “Steam Year in Review 2025” suggested that the launch of its new hardware might be delayed due to global memory and storage shortages

Originally, the post read: “We hope to ship in 2026, but as we shared recently, memory and storage shortages have created challenges for us. We’ll share updates publicly when we finalize our plans.” This wording led many fans to speculate that the products might be pushed back to 2027

However, Valve quickly edited the blog post to offer a firmer commitment. The updated message now states: “We shared recently that there have been challenges with memory and storage shortages, but we will be shipping all three products this year. More updates will be shared as we finalize our plans.”

The new Steam Machine is a compact, console-like mini PC designed to play Steam games on a TV, running a Linux-based OS similar to the Steam Deck. The Steam Frame is a next-generation VR headset, and the Steam Controller is being updated to complement both devices

Valve’s hardware plans were initially set for an early 2026 release, but rising prices and scarcity of RAM and storage, largely driven by the surge in AI industry demand, have complicated the schedule. Last week, the company had announced it needed more time to finalize pricing and launch dates, but insisted the first half of 2026 remained the target window

In a statement to The Verge, a Valve representative said, “nothing has actually changed on our end,” indicating that the company’s internal timeline remains intact despite external challenges

Industry analysts point out that the global chip and memory shortage is expected to persist throughout 2026, with AI demand continuing to outpace supply for consumer electronics

While Valve has reaffirmed the 2026 release for all three products, it has not yet confirmed if they will be available in the first half of the year. The company promises to share more details as plans are finalized.
