Since I went through a lot of trouble during my last (international) flight, I thought it’d be nice to write down some tips and things I learned so others won’t go through the same.
- All connection flights must have at least 2h time between them
This allows you to go through security, immigration, walking through the airport, etc without the risk of losing a connection flight, like I did. Never book a flight with connection flights that have under 2h time between them. - Get to the gate as early as you can(~2h preferably)
That way you’re likely to be the first in the airplane, not needing to dispatch your luggage and being around people which will be in the same flight. In case the gate changes or anything happens, other people who’re in the same boat as you will be around and that helps - If you lose your connection flight, look for a help desk.
If you lose a flight its not the end of the universe. Look for the airline’s help desk and explain the situation, and they might be able to schedule a new flight free of charge if it wasn’t your fault. If they can’t do anything, contact the place you bought the flight from and explain the situation, they might also help. - Ensure important things are in your handbag.
In case your luggage, like mine, ends up not where it should or delaying, ensure you place all your important things such as documents, phone, chargers, money, etc in your handbag. - Bring more money than you think necessary.
Sometimes you’ll come across unexpected situations, like medical needs or maybe miscalculation of how much you’ll expend. Bring more money than needed, and if possible, never bring just a credit card. Have some paper money with you. - Arrive at least 2 days before plans
If you have plans to go somewhere, participate in some event or see some touristic thing, make sure to arrive at least a couple days before. If things happen, or your sleepschedule don’t immediately adjust, those extra days beforehand will serve as a very useful buffer to adjust and fix things. - Have every single bit of information in hands at the airport
If you’re going to a different country, even if immigration isn’t harsh/doesn’t require a visa, its useful to have every bit of information in hands, either on a paper or your phone. It will help with immigration, arriving where you need to(if you, like me, go to Germany for example, without speaking german and need a taxi driver who doesn’t speak english).
