Honestly mini-rant from someone who’s an editor but:
For the longest time(few years now) I and basically everyone have been waiting for twitch to adopt AV1 as a codec to their streams and vods. AV1 already is wide-spread for decoding(meaning basically anyone on a phone, PC or even console could watch) and comparisons have shown it to be equal to or better than H.265 which most of the industry is avoiding because YOU HAVE TO PAY to use.
And guess my surprise when I downloaded a clip today to find out IT USES H265/HVEC INSTEAD OF AV1
How can a company that for years has said it “doesn’t make money”(most likely a lie) chooses to, months after limiting storage for vods, pick a PAID CODEC over a FREE OPEN SOURCE ONE which would save them money?
I stand by my opinion CEOs are all stupid
