As a massive fan, who’s definitely not addicted to Warframe after playing it for over 4500 Hours(I can stop whenever I want!), I couldn’t not make a post about their most recent Tennocon(An annual event where the company talks about how the game is made, what they’ve been working on and have some fun with the fans). This year was the game’s 10nth anniversary and wow, did the event not disappoint.
New Engine Updates
I’ll start with the less interesting parts then talk about the most hyped ones(Otherwise you would stop reading mid article). Before anything new was shown, the first thing talked about, specifically by developer Steve, a massive nerd like me who loves technical, behind the scenes stuff, was their engine improvements.
There will be a whole new light system, that’s being used in the development of Soul Frame(A new project of theirs) which is STUNNING. The colors, shading, reflections, etc look better than ever and, despite no confirmation, I assume it is because the game will finally start using Ray Tracing when you use Directx 12 and have a RTX card.
Quality of Life Changes

This was a short, early segment. A new warframe was announced(Dagath), new lore(the most exciting part, I’ll talk about below), Hydroid Rework(Hopefully a buff?), companions rework(They will be harder to kill, not die permanently in missions anymore, etc), Focus will be easier to farm, Auto-Melee Option(Instead of mashing E until the button breaks) and enemy visibility(Which for people like me who can’t see anything with 10 billion particles going around, will help a lot).
Aside that, there was also an announcement for new dojo decoration(related to Naberus, having a more dark/horror theme) and other minor stuff.
New L O R E
And here’s where things got SPICY. Nearing the end of the event, after a long demonstration of Soul Frame, they showed gameplay of “Whispers in the Walls” and “Warframe: 1999”, which I’m assuming are two separate updates that are interconnected. The first will expand on Deimos and the Entrati family lore, giving you access to a new area underground, where multiple void-themed things can be seen. In it, you’ll have access to a new type of weapon, a Grimoire, random tilesets with new art styles never seen before, a new faction called “Murmur”, etc. This update is expected to be released still this year(2023).
In “Warframe: 1999”, the lore waters are a lot more muddy. Right in the beginning, you’re taken back to what looks like a train station in 1999, where infected arcade machines attack what looks like Excalibur with a human face(personally, when I saw that, I stopped trying to understand what was going on lol). But near the end, you, for the first time ever, see the true Albrecht Entrati(or maybe, the other?) as he makes a sinister grin and we hear the man in the wall scream. The update was announced for 2024, though no precise date was given.
Watch the recording and let me know what you think(and PLEASE point out any lore details I might have missed, or your theories, in the comments):
