This is a bit more of a rant than review, thats why I thought about using the forum for it instead of a blog post.
Couple years ago, I bought slimeVR. As someone who lives in a country where most VR companies don’t sell their stuff directly to(btw, BOOO all of ya massive corporations who won’t bother selling to a 200+ million people market), it was the only viable option, as importing taxes nearly double the price of everything.
I knew it wasn’t going to be perfect, its a glorified accelerometer with basic wifi capabilities and some other stuff, so accuracy won’t ever be perfect, but I wanted fullbody while playing vrchat.
What I couldn’t expect, was all the downsides of it:
- Delivery delays. It took nearly 2 YEARS to finally get my trackers
- Low quality Case. I was lucky my trackers’ case were upgraded before delivery, but originally they were made of a cheap plastic.
- Low quality Hardware. From my experience using, drift is a guarantee constant, certain things(magnetometer) are useless and other things are flat out terrible(ESP-8266EX)
- Low quality Cable. They use a JST 1.25mm to connect between main trackers and their extensions, which breaks with EXTREME ease. I’ve had mine for just 2-3 months and they already are having issues.
- Packaging problems. I bought a 5+3 set(5 main trackers + 3 extensions) and after 2 years of wait, they FORGOT to add the 3 extensions. So I had to wait yet another month and got an extra importing fee charge
So, in my humble opinion, unless you are desperate? DON’T buy slimeVR. And if you have to, either build your own or buy from a 3rd party(thankfully there are many, and by buying local they tend to be cheaper than buying the original ones as I’ve recently learned).

not so nice is how the aliexpress link doesn’t tell you the cables are basically ONLY HALVES.
March 11, 2025 at 15:35 #4317peq42Keymasterlittle bit of an update: The cables mentioned in 4 have been improved according to them and are covered under warranty. I got the new ones and, at least within a month, they haven’t broken/shown any signs of breaking
Update 2(22/04/2025): made no difference. Two months or so after it arrived and problems started happening again. The trackers also come with horrible wifi adapters that every so often have problems.
June 22, 2025 at 02:05 #4880HiraethParticipantSo in regards to the extension cable being bad, but there is now an aftermarket option for cables! and a helpful STL file to help improve the durability of currently owned cables. I have one hosted on Printables, just search up SlimeVR Replacement Cable and youll find it
June 22, 2025 at 06:28 #4882peq42KeymasterProblem is, even with upgrades the type of cable used is way too fragile when compared to something like usb c
Personally I sent my extensions to a friend whos upgrading them into full trackers for me
