This is Tim Sweeney, Epic Games Founder and current CEO. Tim Sweeney told his programmers to make Fortnite, a very popular free game, some years ago. Because of Fortnite’s success, Tim Sweeney thinks his store, Epic Games Store, should also be very popular.
The internet disagrees, however. According to users, Epic’s Store is one of the worst online game stores there is. Tim Sweeney, sadly, couldn’t understand why, so he made a bunch of games free. This did not increase his store’s popularity.
So, like any rational person, Tim Sweeney went to Xitter to vent and got a community note. Twice.

Tim Sweeney, like any good sportsman would do, also voiced support for the $900 million law suit agains’t steam. This wasn’t well received by anyone.
Why Epic Games Store sucks?
Now, in the spirit of trying to help Mr. Sweeney figure out why his store is one of the worst out there, getting less revenue than itchio, I’ve compiled a list of complaints from users online. They are:
- Performance Issues: Many users describe it as slow, buggy, and unfinished, with frequent crashes and a generally unstable experience.
- Limited Features: It lacks features that users expect from a digital storefront, such as a robust review system, advanced search options, and proper community tools.
- No Native Controller Support: Some users complain about the lack of native support for generic controllers and peripherals.
- Timed Exclusives: Epic pays developers for timed exclusivity deals, which some gamers feel limits their choice and hurts competition.
- Poor Library Management: The interface and library management are considered inferior to competitors like Steam.
- No Social Features: There’s a lack of robust social features, such as user profiles, groups, and forums.
- Privacy Concerns: Some users are wary of Epic’s privacy practices and data collection.
- Inconsistent User Experience: The store is often criticized for a confusing and inconsistent user interface and overall experience.
- Missing Features Compared to Competitors: No cloud saves, limited cloud sync, and fewer customization options compared to other platforms.
- Forced Freebies: While giving away free games is popular, some users feel the store leans too heavily on this strategy rather than improving the platform itself.
This is just a small compilation of opinions from GameFAQs, Reddit, Quora and even Steam Community.
What is YOUR opinion? Do you like the EGS? How mature was the CEO’s attitude? What would you do differently?
