Writing this because I myself couldn’t figure it out until a day ago.
VRChat devs are quite incompetent and arrogant, this we all know, and so their “companion app”, which only supports the deprecated windows 10, doesn’t even open on Linux(Believe when I say I and Wine tried). So how do we make and upload avatars under Linux? The answer: VRC-Get. An open-source, community made, Linux, MacOS and Windows(10/11) compatible creator companion.
- Go to VRC-Get’s github
- Click releases -> Assets(On the latest release)
- Download the .AppImage file
- After download, Right click -> Properties -> Permissions
- Check “Allow Executing File as Program”
- Open it
There you go. Unity Hub already supports Linux so there’s no need for a tutorial there.
The interface is pretty much the same as VRChat’s creator companion, but it runs faster at least on my system.
Enjoy!
